1840 marks particularly important year for the region around the Styrian Erzberg. Realizing that the Anglo-Saxon world was advancing rapidly due to the unfolding industrial revolution, Archduke Johann founded the “Styrian Corporate School of Mining” in Vordernberg. Over the past 175 years, this school has evolved into Montanuniversität Leoben as we know it today ? an exemplary university with international reputation and home to nearly 4,000 students from all continents. In 2015 we celebrate this great jubilee with a number of events and festivities.
